What makes working for BSL fun? We hope that reading this blog will convince some of the 18,807 IT professionals who are currently unemployed to take a look at our current job vacancies! In our previous blog, Eric and Diana explained why they enjoy working for BSL. Now we’re giving our rookie Roderick Gadellaa and veteran Peter Verbaan the opportunity to say what they think…
Although BSL is a small organization, our clients include a number of multinationals such as ABN/AMRO and PWC. Our size gives us far greater flexibility, and the room to be truly innovative. And our enthusiastic team is always ready to learn about new industries and technologies. We have a wide range of clients, in a variety of sectors – and this includes many small- and medium-sized businesses. Typically we develop/maintain the websites of these customers – often using off-the-shelf CMS systems such as Drupal or WordPress. But our flexible approach means we’re not limited to delivering standard Drupal modules. We can design and create whatever you want. Delivering fully-responsive and SEO-friendly websites for our clients.
What languages do we use?
No, not just English and Dutch! Our developers are highly qualified and experienced. They regularly attend training courses, keeping up-to-date with the latest technological developments. So which languages do we use? Well, our language skills include Java, Javascript, PHP for web developments, and Objective C/Java for creating mobile apps. And plenty of HTML/CSS too! Naturally we have lots of in-house CMS and database know-how (including MySQL, Oracle, Sybase ASE).
So what makes working at BSL fun?
We thought the best people to explain what makes working at BSL so much fun are the employees themselves. We asked them the following questions: what’s your role at BSL, and how long have you been working here? What is/are your favorite memories? What makes working at BSL the right choice?
We’ll first hear from our rookie Roderick Gadellaa, who’s been working at BSL just a few months:
His favorite moments:
“I’ve only been working here a couple of months, but I’ve already enjoyed lots of great times: two meals for example, a boat trip where I had the chance to see lots more of Breukelen. I also enjoy our discussions round the lunch table, or over a beer or two, on topics ranging from films and music, to the Brexit vote.”
And why is working at BSL the right choice??
“We work for many famous names, but BSL enjoys all the benefits that a small company can offer – especially the flat organization structure. Plenty of time and attention is given to making sure you’re ‘up and running’ quickly, you can easily approach colleagues at any time with questions, and you’re soon given responsibility in projects. Your ideas and opinions are valued too. This not only means greater flexibility, but makes you feel really involved in the work you’re doing. In other words, you’re working as part of a team, and you know you play an important role in that team.”
His favorite moments:
“Discussions with colleagues about the best way to set up a library’s API. The launch of a NIOD website I’d been working on, that was attended by Princess Margriet. A whole range of enjoyable social events, from eating poffertjes in Breukelen, to sailing on the IJsselmeer”.
And why is working at BSL the right choice?
Because it gives you plenty of opportunity to develop yourself further, and to specialize. You’re involved in more than one aspect of a project too. And as well as sharing know-how with colleagues, it’s always enjoyable working with a closely-knit team of people.
