We’d like to welcome Jurjen, the newest addition to our team! Jurjen will be working as Junior Java Developer, helping from the word go on several large projects. Three words that can describe Jurjen are: inquisitive, sociable, and a gamer!
Junior Software Developer
Jurjen joined BSL in mid April as Junior Java Developer. Perfect timing. Because our developers had just started work on two major projects. With this in mind, an extra pair of hands is a big plus! In the first project, our engineers will be developing a responsive web application for PwC’s Pulse system. Pulse is a custom news alert system developed by BSL. With a new responsive interface, PwC end-users will be able to use Pulse content far more easily on their mobile devices. In addition, we have planned new sprints for ABN AMRO. Specifically to further enhance the ABN AMRO’s SRS system, also created by BSL. Jurjen will work on Java components of both of these projects. Challenging projects for a newcomer to BSL, but all under the supervision of our experienced software developers.
Van psychology to developer
Jurjen has a Masters in Social Psychology. An unusual combination for a software developer you might ask? Jurjen explains: “I first chose Psychology because I was really interested in how people behave. But once I’d got my Masters and began job hunting, I realised that I couldn’t honestly see myself working in that field.”
After some serious thought, he quickly came to the conclusion that work as a software developer was the career for him. He had been involved with computers from an early age. As a young boy, he was particularly interested in how software worked. And if a program didn’t do what he wanted ? Then he would simply modify the program! Jurjen is also convinced that the ICT sector has a lot to offer. Specifically he enjoys developing something where you immediately get to see a result. For this reason he followed a Java training course last year. Why Java? Java is widely used in software development. And the demand for Java expertise is therefore sure to increase in coming years. But in due time, he of course wants to learn other languages too.
Eager to learn
In other words, Jurjen is super interested in computers and software! An interest that keeps him busy in his spare time too. He enjoys reading articles about programming. But plenty of other subjects catch his attention as well. In other words, he’s inquisitive and eager to learn! And it probably goes without saying that playing computer games is one of his hobbies. Equally he finds old-fashioned board games with friends fun too. And when he’s not working, he also enjoys honing his handyman skills in his new house.
