Dutch Sign Language
It’s often difficult to learn a sign language just using drawings and photographs found in traditional sign language dictionaries. In a successful collaboration with the Dutch Foundation for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Child (NSDSK) and Durham University (UK), BSL developed a sign language database (SignBase). This stored sign language videos, and grammatical information, alongside other textual and visual information. Following on from this, we developed a series of educational CD-roms, containing films and still images of signs used in Dutch Sign Language (NGT) and British Sign Language (confusingly- BSL). ESA ESTEC Brochure – Dutch Language
ESA ESTEC
ESA (European Space Agency) is a collaboration between 18 European countries in the field of space technology. The Dutch-based ESTEC (European Space Research and Technology Centre) is responsible for applications used in telecommunication- and observation satellites, and launch installations. Effective Risk Management is essential in the space industry. BSL was asked to develop a Risk Visualization System (RVS) on behalf of ESA/ESTEC. The main goals: to minimize risks, managing all safety information and ‘site records’ within a single integrated system. (more…)

Edison Software
Edison is a suite of three image management applications: HKD, R&V, and VRD. BSL developed the Edison software for the Dutch Criminal Intelligence Service (CRI) and the Dutch regional police authority (KLPD). With the help of Edison, users can manage and distribute thousands of high quality, sensitive and encrypted images. We developed the applications for Windows and Apple computers, sharing a central Sybase ASE database. Many of the end-user interfaces were designed for touch-screens. AMC Image Bank Brochure – Dutch Language
AMC Image Bank
Laboratory workers at the Academic Medical Centre (AMC) in Amsterdam used a standard “off-the-shelf” application to register laboratory test results. BSL was asked to add medical scans and images to the test results and link them to other patient details…
We love a challenge, and produced a design for a custom Apple application that integrates a wide variety of image material (scans, graphs and more) with the test results. We developed the AMC image bank, a high performance network database that links the images to patient details using a hidden terminal interface to their existing Oracle software. (more…)
