ANP News Service

The ANP (Netherlands national news agency) is the most important news provider in The Netherlands. It provides news coverage for the Dutch daily newspapers, radio, television and the internet. Two of the first web services they provided were the ANP News Service and News Archive, both of which were designed and developed by BSL. Together with the ANP we defined the requirements, and created custom web applications using Oracle and Autonomy (HPE IDOL) technology. This offered high performance, high availability (24/7) and security. Most importantly: they delivered up-to-date news and archive material to ANP subscribers throughout the world.

“Old news is no news” applies to everyone in the online news industry. The ANP is no exception, with a host of important clients who demand instant access to complete and accurate news. The ANP News Server played a key role in achieving this goal, operating around the clock. Publishing news articles in real-time so that they were online within seconds of an editor filing a story. Subscribers chose the news categories (sports, foreign news, local news…) and how many messages they wanted to see. Headlines for matching news items appeared instantly in their browser, with instant access to the full article.
