As you may already know, the new Canon Committee, led by Professor James Kennedy, updated the Dutch Canon in 2020. The Committee retired ten topics and added ten new ones. We had already updated our Entoen app to include this new content, but we wanted to do more. So, in our blog from November last year, we described our plans to develop an entirely new “Canon van Nederland” app. The new app contains lots of additional content and sports a completely new look! We’re delighted to say that the app is now available in the App Store and GooglePlay store.
What is the Canon of the Netherlands?
The Canon of the Netherlands contains 50 carefully chosen ‘windows’ that collectively describe the story of how events and people have shaped the Netherlands. The Canon editorial team completely revised the Canon in 2020, considering new social developments and perspectives: they replaced ten topics and updated most of the remaining text, linking the Canon windows to seven main themes. The new Canon of the Netherlands app fully supports the recently revised Canon of the Netherlands (2020).
The new Canon of the Netherlands app
We’ve not only given our app a new, modern interface. We’ve added a range of other improvements, including far more multi-media content. As with the Entoen Nu app, we’ve produced lite and full versions of the Canon of the Netherlands app. The main difference is that we’ve designed the full version for use during school lessons. It contains a project selector describing many different projects that children can carry out individually or in groups. Along with the project selector, the full version also includes a set of “Information images”, containing many points of interest that children can use to discover hidden details.
What’s more, we’ve completely revamped the CanonvanNederland.app website, adding new images and content. Visitors to the website can find further information about our apps, and download them directly from the site.
