The Bright Side of Life recently celebrated the 20 year anniversary of Eric Wijnands in top style – literally – in the Sky Lounge at the Fletcher hotel in Amsterdam.
20th Anniversary Eric Wijnands
Eric – one of our senior software engineers – first joined The Bright Side of Life back in 1995. Such a milestone could of course not go unnoticed. For this special occasion, BSL invited former colleagues, as well as a number of customers who have worked closely with Eric over the years, to join the BSL team. The location? The spectacular lounge on the 17th floor of the Fletcher Hotel in Amsterdam. The invitations and preparations had been a well-kept secret from Eric until the day before, and so too was one of the main reasons for choosing the location. As well as having stunning views over Amsterdam, the Sky Lounge is also home to an extraordinary piano – a Roland Whaletone.
Multi-talented
Anyone who knows Eric also knows that he has played jazz at a professional level for many years. He’s equally at home sitting behind a piano or a computer keyboard! So in between enjoying the view, the food, and chatting with customers and ex colleagues, Eric was invited to entertain his guests and show off his musical talents. Not that he needed much persuading to seat himself at the Whaletone. Effortlessly playing some well-known jazz standards, Eric was obviously enjoying himself and so too was his audience – listening to the music, with a glass of wine or beer in their hands, everyone was soaking up the atmosphere. Eric is valued as a colleague and by our business relations – and this was clear to see.
After the last of his guests had departed, Eric left for home carrying the many gifts he had received during his very special evening in the spotlight. Eric wants to thank Martyn Simpson and Caroline for arranging this memorable anniversary celebration, and of course his colleagues, ex-colleagues, and customers for joining him. Now for the next 20 years…
