At the request of a large Internet development bureau, BSL has been asked to provide (on site) Drupal expertise to help develop a new Drupal CMS-based web site for a national newspaper.
BSL has built up a great reputation for Drupal expertise, working on Bibliotheek.nl, and several other complex Drupal projects over the last three years. Our expertise in support of Drupal technical developments and interfaces to third-party systems has no doubt played a role in our selection for this latest project.
Online news site
We are developing a new online publication – a key part of the online presence of the most popular newspaper in the Netherlands. The site is being completely redesigned, supporting easy expansion in the future. This flexibility also means that the same framework can also be used to support more publications from the same newspaper group. To check out the results of our work, click here. It’s an example of a beautiful, modern – and efficient – interface, that can support many thousands of concurrent users.
Drupal and back-end development
Having helped produce the development proposals, BSL is now supplying technical back-end developers and Drupal development know-how within a development team working at the client’s Amsterdam office.
Speed is of the essence, and so we had to start work immediately after signing the contract. With this in mind, Scrum has been adopted. Our main goal is to work towards a so-called MVP (Minimum Viable Product) in blocks of three Sprints, each of which covers a period of two weeks. As is normal practice using Scrum, a (small) interim demo is given at the end of each Sprint, when the goals for the next Sprint will also be fine-tuned. The scope of the MVP and the interim demos are agreed beforehand with the client, with the aim of demonstrating working project components at the end of each Sprint.
The benefits of Agile/SCRUM
For the development team, the main benefit is that clear, achievable goals are established at the outset of each Sprint. And for the client, the advantage is that project progress is periodically reviewed and assessed. It is expected that the MVP will be completed at the start of September.
